TBN’s Holy Land Experience Theme Park

Want to see where all that money from Trinity Broadcasting Network’s donors is going?  Take a look at this:

It’s the TBN Holy Land Experience!  This cost $16 million dollars to build.

TBN now has a theme park, and it has been built to resemble biblical times.  The crucifixion is carried out every day, except for Sunday.

In the picture above, the actor who portrays Jesus carries the cross during a crucifixion reenactment.  Is this responsible spending of donor’s money?

According to TBN, you can go to their theme park and see Jesus:

That’s one way to tell the world about Jesus – open a theme park!  In case you thought admission was free, think again.  Here is the entrance fees for the park:

Gate Price

Adult One-Day Pass: $35 <purchase now>
Child (6-12) One-Day Pass: $20
Senior (55+) One-Day Pass: $30
Children 5 and under: FREE

We live in a society where people can’t afford to buy gasoline to get to work, or food to eat, and some families are losing their homes because they have no money to pay their bills, but at least we have the Holy Land Experience theme park to fork out our hard earned money to.

For those who really want to enjoy the experience, there’s the annual Jerusalem Gold Pass:

Jerusalem Gold Pass
Our annual Jerusalem Gold Pass allows guests to visit The Holy Land Experience as often as they like.

Jerusalem Gold Pass Annual Membership: $120

While you’re there, don’t forget to pick up your very own original Holy Land Experience T-shirt, as well as the widow’s mite necklace, both for $12.95:

But then again, evangelicalism is becoming more and more like a carnival.  This should surprise no one in these end times.

Actually, the park was founded and opened to the public in February 2001, by a small ministry called Zion’s Hope. The focus was an educational one, and Zion’s Hope remained in leadership until 2005. The Holy Land Experience then came under the direction of Sola Scriptura for a short time, and then again under the direction of leaders from Herschend Family Entertainment (think of LegoLand!).

TBN only purchased the park in June 2007 and, along with the purchase, jacked up the prices and “cheesed” up the experience.

You really would have found an educational and ministry type of experience before that point. Seriously!

Thank you very much for the background on this.

I’ve come to expect that anything TBN puts its hand to on a grand scale will have a cheese factor. It’s their calling card.

What really is the point of your post? Theme parks are going to be built (especially in Florida) and have outrageous admission prices. Which would you rather see, a secular theme park or a “Christian-themed” one? I can tell you one thing – you don’t own your own business. I am sure TBN has to pass along the rising costs of everything just as any other business. You mentioned one of the reasons for this in your post -rising fuel costs. You were expecting free admission:).

    Respectful dissenting opinion.

Upon acquiring the HolyLand Experience, TBN quickly fired over 100 people and replaced them with day labor employees so that they no longer had to accomodate benefits among full time staff. The vast majority of these day labor employees were not Christians: you can decide about the appropriateness of this type of staffing in a “Christian theme park.” The constant firing of workers continues even now, a year after they bought the park. Basically, anyone that Jan or her assistants don’t like can expect to be placed on the chopping block. The many of the acts that TBN has commited at the HolyLand Experience have been decietful and unlawful: Everything from building without proper government issued permits, to housing animals without permits/veternary care/adequate food, to cocaine on HLE grounds, to sexual harrassment from TBN adminstration to employees.

Money for extravagant furnishing is spent on an exhorbatant basis. Jan will choose something, not like it, throw it away and get something else.

One of the craziest things I witness was when Jan first started visiting the HLE offices. She required that all the carpeting be cleaned using hydrogen peroxide. This task required purchasing every bottle of hydrogen peroxide at every walmart and target within the surrounding 7 mile radius. When the job wasn’t done to her satisfaction, she had the day labor employees do it again. “Why hydrogen peroxide?” you ask. Because Jan always has her little white dog named Chi Chi with her. She pushes it in a pink stroller. She believed that Chi Chi was allergic to harsh chemicals and that is why things needed to be cleaned with hydrogen peroxide. Forget about all the people that were allergic to her dog.

Please stop giving money to these people.

All these posts are ridiculous. Yeah, maybe things don’t get done the way YOU want them to get done. Maybe firings occured wrongfully. Maybe some things are a little cheesy. But you can’t tell me that the TBN hasn’t touched peoples’ hearts and turned them to Christ. Isn’t that the point? I don’t know if you’re a Christian or not. I assume you aren’t cause no one has backed up anything they’ve said with any type of spiritual concern. But if you are a Christian, this is one reason people hate us. We fight about everything that doesn’t look right in OUR eyes. The Bible is meant to be a mirror for us to do what is right in our lives, not to use it as a finger and point out all the wronging of others. Some of these posts sound as if they came from disgruntled ex-employees. I’m sorry if you feel you were wronged. I can pray for that and for the discernment of TBN. But bashing them to people in any way, even if you think it’s Godly, isn’t going to help the Kingdom.

I wonder if you are a christian. These owners of the world largest breeding ground for pimping ministers is full of something that exits and considered waste. This woman, Jan should be in jail or a psych ward. Any human being who asks people to send TBN their little grocery money should not be in society. Building a Holy Land Experience is just another way to increase their enrichments. If you have to beg for grocery money, why in God’s name are you building, decorating and owning mulitple mansions? I am willing to bet Jan’s horses and dogs eat better than any elderly person she rips off. How can these two thieves continue to exist in business with their shady lying words. Telling the elderly they should donate if they enjoy the broadcast is one thing, but telling them they are robbing God if they don’t, to Promising healing and prosperity. Any of you supporters of this crap are in the same boat with them. That includes all ministers, singers, and dancers who assist them in robbing the elderly, who after donating expect and hope for a better few days of life, give their all, and depend upon food services to feed them. Do you think Jan would go for a week without makeup and send that money to pay the energy bill of one of her elderly listeners? Nope! Paul is the lowest of the low asking God to shoot people who disagree with him. Well I guess I should watch my back but I have no shame when it comes to outing pimps, working in the name of Jesus. If you dont believe me, go to youtube Jan Crouch wants your grocery money, then come back and we will talk about christians. Would you miss feeding your family just to send the money to TBN? How Pathetic! Asking for grocery money when they can pay off sexual accusers, multiple homes, new and newly decorated buildings etc. How many of the “little grammas” do you think can even visit their money making Holy Land experience? Shame, Shame, Shame. I wish I could speak with Paul and Jan or anyone who dare support their deadly ways of enriching themselves. Why is it important to have such luxury when you are begging constantly? I have no concern for the young and able minded people who donate, but when you target the elderly, you have become low as a snakes’s belly. One chair on their set cost more than a two month supply of groceries for the elderly. Who says you have to broadcast from a golden stage? Is God happy about them living like kings and queens and their supporters cant afford their medicine or buy meat or milk? Get real people. Check on your elderly. Too many have found out after an elderly loved one passed that they were sending TBN most of their SS checks. Jan take you fake tear falling scams and fall on your knees and ask for forgiveness. Apologize to all the little “grammas” you have scammed, and in return, bless them with a check of fifty dollars. Why don’t you and your rich gloating family miss meals for a week and donate that money to your TBN. Don’t ask someone to do something you are not willing to do. These people have home churches they try to support and I wish all pastors would storm TBN and put a stop to your lying evil ways. Jim and Tammy should never have been treated the way they were when you and your family are 100 times worse. They did not target the poor and elderly. I comment on every site I can about these fakes, and as long as I am allowed, I will continue to~

You guys should back all the way off. This web site makes you look really ignorant by attacking a good thing.

Go after the bad guys if you want to start up a fight. Leave the good guys alone already.

  8. Carol

There is nothing good about Jan Crouche or her husband. It’s that simple. They are false teachers and they are hypocrites. A true servant of God would NOT live lavishly and continue to fleece the poor flocks just to add to their own luxury. If you choose to support these people, that is your choice.

However, for those of us who see the wickedness in their teachings and their lifestyles, and they are not the only false teachers living in the lap of luxury while they fleece their “supporters” with faith seed money, we cringe because of those unsuspecting souls who willfully scrape their money to send to these people so they live lavishly.

The way they treat their employees should be a good indication that they are not the best examples of Christlikeness. Or they would not be so manipulative and degrading.

To take the gospel of the Precious Lord Jesus and turn it into a Christianized theme park makes me sick, to publicly re-enact the crucifixion is a sin! To put Jesus to death “everyday, except Sundays” is as bad as the Catholic masses.

The money spent on this abomination could be better used sending it to poor people in low income areas rather than make the Crouches richer.

And as far as “looking bad”, we are to test the spirits and see if these actions are not lined up with the Word of God or they are. These people are to be examined for their fruit and it’s rotten.
As for how many have supposedly been blessed by this ministry could not outnumber the many who have been fleeced by these people.

  9. Russ

Im glad to see that TBN has passed on the inflationary costs of PREACHING GODS WORD in parallel with rising gas prices, thus making it possible for my whole family(cost total=120smackers) to affordably experience(COUGH COUGH)the “holy” land.I can only hope the manifestations of the spirit will be on sale so I can afford to be “born again” the HOLYLAND EXP.WAY!

  10. Carol

Wait till you try the Holyland Experience Park Food! That will get you coming back for more….

  11. D

    Are you freaking kidding?
“Go after the bad guys if you want to start up a fight. Leave the good guys alone already.”

Jan Crotch’s dog has a diamond studded collar that has been appraised for 1.3 million.

I understand reaping the benefits of your hard work. But don’t beg for money to feed the poor and helpless when you are living in a 12 bedroom home, flying on private jets and being driven around in limos.

Take one car from each of the Crotch clan and go feed a small country for a few months.

    GOOD GUYS????

  12. Frances

it’s so crazy to me that people assume that God does not give his children wealth. I understand that you guys disagree with the conduct of the Crotch I can’t say that what you guys say about them is true or not. What I can say is that I have visited the Holy Land experience and was truly blessed I also believe that it is a good idea to have a God centered theme Park. If the Crotch is as wicket as you guys claim remember Galatians 6:7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. So lets let God be their Judge because the lord says judge not unless you be judge. I really feel bad that you guys have some much anger stored up. If you are christians where is your love because if you don’t have love you are no part of god because god is love. Our job as christians is to spread the Good News that our lord and savior Jesus Christ died to save us from a life of sin and that through his blood there is Love, Joy, Freedom, Peace, Rest, I know you guys don’ want to dear this but it is the truth anyhow. If this Theme Park bring one lost sheep home it is worth it the lord said that he would leave his 99 sheep to go in seek in find that one lost sheep. Angels and all the heavens rejoice when one sinner turn their life to God. Please consider what you say because you never know if that lost sheep who planed to visit the Theme Park and read this blog and then become discourage and end up staying in the state of lost and in darkness. who will have to answer for that Soul ?

To those who get an ’emotional blessing’ from the Crotch’s unholy land, keep this in mind…
“Take heed to yourselves, for you saw NO FORM when the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, lest you ACT CORRUPTLY and make for yourselves a carved image in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth or the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air…” From Deuteronomy 4:15-17

We must remember to worship God in SPIRIT and in TRUTH.

This is from Paul Washer’s ‘One True God’ study, available for download at http://www.heartcrymissionary.com/resources/online_books…’The reference to worshiping God in spirit has two possible implications, 1. we must worship God with all our being, sincerely and profoundly. 2. We must worship God in the power and under the direction of the Holy Spirit.
The reference to worshiping God in truth also has two implications, 1. We must worship God truthfully, sincerely, and with integrity 2. We must worship God according to the truth i.e. according to the will of God revealed in the Scriptures. We must AVOID associating God with a religious building or ascribing to God any human limitation.’ from lesson 2, ‘God is Spirit’, by Paul Washer

To Frances~theme parks DO NOT save lost sinners! “So then, faith comes by HEARING, and hearing by the word of God” Romans 10:17
The Gospel of Jesus Christ saves lost sinners. Before the good news of Christ is given, you must first give the bad news, that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. This is the ‘sting’ of the Gospel, the part no one likes to hear. This is also why many today who profess the faith refuse to preach the whole counsel.
The law of God is what illuminates sin in the lives of lost souls. Once the lost sinner sees, from God’s word, his/her crimes against a holy God, then the good news of Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection is given. Christ took the wrath of God upon Himself to reconcile wicked mankind to a Holy God.
Man cannot ‘duplicate’ what Christ did while on earth by degrading a Holy God with ‘actors’ and ‘actresses’ walking around dressing up as Jesus, the disciples, Mary, etc. However, this ‘theme park’ is raking in money for the Crotches. God does not promise monetary blessings for His people; Christ teaches one cannot serve both God and mammon {Matt. 6:24}. What does the bible teach about God’s provisions? “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into [this] world, [and it is] certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.” 1 Timothy 6:6-8
I see nothing in those passages pertaining to lavishness, excess, or abundance.
    We are commanded by Christ not to worry about what we will eat, drink, or put on. God knows our needs and provides them; instead, we should ‘seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you’. {Matt. 6:33}

It is a shame so many seek Jesus through ’emotions’; if you truly want to be drawn closer to Him, pray and ask so. He draws us to Him by fiery trials and tribulations. How many seek God when all is well? The ‘storms of life’ are what grow a babe in Christ into a mature, well rounded bondservant.

  15. aliveinchrist

The correct response is pray for the Crouches.

Thank God for all the good they HAVE done and stop talking about what they haven’t done.

They are Christians praise God, and NOT apathetic at least.
Let us judge OURSELVES first before we start judging others. Amen!

    1. Chrystal Post author

No, we won’t ever turn a blind eye and stop talking about what they haven’t done.

If you stop judging, you’ll swallow any heresy coming down the pike. The proof of this is that you’re willing to accept the Crouches just because they call themselves Christians and have a television channel, and are willing to overlook all of the unbiblical damage they have done to the body of Christ.

Jesus said that many would say to Him in that day, “Lord, didn’t we cast out devils in your name, didn’t we heal the sick in your name…” and He said He would say to them, “Depart from me, I never knew you.” These aren’t people who never claimed to be a Christian, these are prominent people who call themselves Christians who went about saying they were doing miracles in the name of the Lord. That should strike us all with soberness. Does this type of person sound familiar to you?

I’ve said it so many times, God gave us His Word and told us to test the spirits so that we wouldn’t be led astray. We can’t do that without judging. You swallow anything that comes along if you like, but I would rather hope that you would grow in God’s Word so that you can’t be deceived by people like the Crouches.

  16. Laurie

Alive in Christ~ may I ask you this? Does a Christian need to make this kind of salary~”Significant salaries for 2001 included Paul Crouch at about $403,700 and Jan Crouch at $347,500.”~{from http://www.ministrywatch.com} and STILL continue to fleece people?

Do true men and women of God call for death to those who ‘come against them?’ Crouch’s own words, ‘God, we proclaim death to anything or anyone that will lift a hand against this network and this ministry that belongs to You, God. It is Your work, it is Your idea, it is Your property, it is Your airwaves, it is Your world, and we proclaim death to anything that would stand in the way of God’s great voice of proclamation to the whole world. In the Name of Jesus, and all the people said Amen!’ This borders the same mindset as that of radical Islam!
Where in Holy Scripture does God command us to wish death upon those who are lost?

Why is it the ONLY comeback of defenders of sinful men the much taken out of context passage on ‘judging’, with no specific evidence presented biblically to go with this accusation? Listen carefully, to expose the false teachings of the wolves is NOT ‘judgmental’, it is COMMANDED in scripture…”Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. ” Ephesians 5:11 Heed the warning from the Lord Jesus Christ Himself, “See that no one leads you astray.” Matt. 24:4

Study the scriptures, the lives of the Apostles, of the Lord Jesus Christ…NEVER did they ask others for money so they could live in excess. Christ had nowhere to lay His head, John the Baptist wore a suit of camel hair and ate locusts and wild honey, the Apostle Paul was beaten with 39 lashes on several occasions, jailed, and ran out of town.
Let’s look closer at Paul’s claims…To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are poorly dressed and buffeted and homeless, and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;when slandered, we entreat. We have become, and are still, like the scum of the world, the refuse of all things. I do not write these things to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I URGE YOU THEN, BE IMITATORS OF ME.” 1 Cor. 4:11-16
Now, look at the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ, “If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. ” John 15:19
True followers of Christ are HATED by the world, not lavished in excess, wealth, materialism…”Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ” 1 John 2:15
Paul taught on the dangers of money in 1 Timothy 6:6-10, “Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”

” And Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” Mark 10:23 ~” And they were exceedingly astonished, and said to him, “Then who can be saved?”Jesus looked at them and said, “With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God. Mark 10:26-27~”Peter began to say to him, “See, we have left everything and followed you.” Mark 10:28

A complete emptying of self, a denial of worldly lusts, possessions, materialism is what following Christ calls for. The only way to enter through the narrow gate is to leave your baggage behind, your worldly longings. The Crouches fail in comparison to the Apostles, most of whom died for their allegiance to Christ.

Compare the ‘prosperity’ doctrine of the Crouches, and their entourage, with the pattern set by Christ, and followed by the Apostles. That pattern has not changed for today’s believers.

  17. Gsharon710

To the devout supporters of Pulpit pimps, and the ones who think only GOD should speak against their wrong……”If you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything.” It is very important to be on a firm foundation so you cannot be rocked and swayed. Your blind love for those who go against The Word can only be temporary. Prepare youselves to live life eternal, a place where there will be no pimping, no robbing, no sickness. Those poor people who fell for the “we need grocery money” will one day live in the kingdom. Praise GOd !

  18. Jane

TBN is a reflection of what and who Jan Crouch is.
Her show of fakery, using offerings sent in for silicone implants and to inject collagen into her lips. All her flamboyant presentations of the gospel simply is what she herself is. FAKE.

  19. Sandy

I am going to visit the HolyLand Experience in May and I can’t wait. I think it is a wonderful place for Christians to go and remember our Lord and what he did for us. The man who orginally started this park had a wonderful vison, unfortunately it takes a lot of money to keep something like this going and he couldn’t afford to do it without help. How can we be angry with TBN for taking this over? Why blame ANY Christian that is trying to make a living in the world that will bring glory to God. No one thinks a thing about a football player making millions of dollars, yet if the Crouches make money that makes them evil? God teaches us in the bible that HE is the one that gives us the power to gain wealth. Deut 8:18. Why should the secular people be allowed to make movies and make money, but not the Christians? Why should the secular people be allowed to make music CD,’s and make money, but not the Christians? Why should the secular people be allowed to have a business that make them a good living, but not the Christian business? Where is that written in the word of God? No one thinks twice about the author of Harry Potter making all those millions, but if a Christian writer makes millions that is bad??? Why? God wants to bless and prosper HIS people. We should stop complaining about those who are being blessed by God. Stop the divisions…just as Jesus taught us in Matthew 12:25…. unite together as Christians and encourage one another until Jesus comes again. Psalms 133:1, Hebrews 3:13

Can’t you find another way to fill your time besides running down something GOOD!

  21. lyn

Sharon~You claim, “Can’t you find another way to fill your time besides running down something GOOD!” I must ask, is this good? From http://www.ocweekly.com/2009-02-12/news/moxley-confidential-rackauckas/
“Did televangelist Paul Crouch Sr., founder of fervently anti-gay Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), secretly date a gay employee?

That’s the implication of a wrongful-termination lawsuit filed late last month in Orange County Superior Court by Brian E. Dugger, who spent 14 years as a TBN broadcasting engineer.
    Déjà vu?

You may recall a 2004 Los Angeles Times revelation that Crouch denied he had homosexual tendencies but paid $425,000 to silence Enoch Lonnie Ford, another onetime male TBN employee who’d said he and the wealthy televangelist had a sexual affair.

In the latest court action, first reported by former longtime Timesman William Lobdell at his site, WilliamLobdell.com, Dugger says he met Crouch while working at the network’s Tennessee offices in the mid-’90s. The filing stops short of claiming the men slept together, but alleges that Crouch “persistently” invited Dugger, then a TBN employee in San Antonio, to “private dinners typically followed by drinks at his home.” In 2000, according to the lawsuit, the televangelist “insisted” that the men live closer. Dugger relocated from Texas to the Christian broadcasting network’s headquarters in Tustin.

If Crouch was content to associate privately with Dugger, his relatives in Southern California were apparently aghast. Shortly after Dugger’s transfer here, Jan Crouch, the elder Crouch’s wife, infamous for showcasing big hairdos and heavy black eye makeup on broadcasts, and Danny York, a TBN vice president, began pressuring him about his sexuality.

“[Dugger] was told not to dress so ‘gay’ or to wear jewelry, as it would identify him as a homosexual,” the lawsuit alleges. “Thereafter, throughout his employment, he was continuously harassed, mocked, taunted and told not to look gay.”

According to the suit, Paul Crouch Jr., who has assumed greater control over TBN operations from his father in recent years, participated in the abuse, telling Dugger he “should quit being gay and act more straight.”

The court filing details other stories:

    • In 2002, Junior told him that a picture on his personal website was “really gay,” that he needed to pay more attention to what “girls are into” sexually and that he should “pursue sexual relationships with women instead of men.”
    • Junior sent him “explicit” photographs of xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    • Junior prompted laughter from an April 2004 TBN audience by stating that “Brian has a mangina.”

Dugger, who is seeking $650,000 for lost wages and $1.9 million in punitive damages, says Paul Crouch Jr. told him that TBN was “not a place for fairies” before he was fired in 2007.

If true, you have to wonder if Junior consulted his daddy before making such ?a statement.

John Casoria, a TBN representative, called Dugger’s lawsuit “mainly a work of fiction.”

  22. Sandy

So what does the goodness of The Holy Land Experience have to with a man that is trying to extort money from the Crouches?

Would the Holy Temple and its goodness and purpose have anything to do with King Solomon’s concubines?

  23. lyn

Sandy, exposing the Crouches for what they are, false teachers, has everything to do with it. These ravenous wolves spew out a false gospel, and masses flock to them. Here’s a clue, flock to CHRIST ALONE.
If the whole Crouch gang were on the ‘up and up’ why did Crouch Jr. continually mock this homosexual? Why wasn’t he given the Gospel? Why hire this lost soul to begin with, knowing Papa Crouch has a weakness for boys?

Why do so many insist on a ‘feel good’ experience? Where is this taught in scripture? People such as yourself want entertainment, you want to ‘experience Jesus’; you are in direct opposition to what God’s word teaches. We must worship God in spirit and in truth, not based upon some ‘felt experience’. There’s nothing holy about a man-made theme park.

If you want to go deeper with Christ, there’s only ONE WAY, get into the word. Christ draws us closer, not through theme parks, but through trials, through trouble and tribulation.
Get away from false teachers, which the Lord Jesus Christ warned repeatedly about, and get into the Word of God. Search the scriptures and cry out from a heart that has been broken by God, ‘have mercy on me oh God, a sinner’.
Quit looking for cheap thrills and the easy road, which is also known as the broad road. This is the same road that leads directly to hell.
