Paul and Jan Crouch’s Granddaughter Suing for Unlawful Distribution of ‘Charitable Assets’

It appears that Paul and Jan Crouch, founders of TV empire Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) need to keep their friends close, and their enemies even closer – especially if that enemy is one of their grandchildren.

An article in the Christian Post reveals that Brittany B. Koper, granddaughter of Paul and Jan Crouch, is suing her former attorneys for “breach of duties, inflicting emotional distress and professional negligence.”  Apparently the attorneys advised her to help cover up financial abuse and fraud at TBN.

After Koper took charge of TBN’s finance department, she allegedly discovered illegal financial practices on the part of the company’s directors, but was told to protect the information.

“Following her appointment, Ms. Koper was specifically instructed to falsify public financial disclosures, to falsify government records, and to otherwise cover up conduct of the TBN Companies and their directors that Ms. Koper reasonably believed to be unlawful,” the suit claims.

None of this is surprising, but if the allegations are true, it’s going to be hard for a lot of people to turn a deaf ear to someone as close to the family as a grandchild.  Many will still defend them and claim this attack is from the devil, however, it doesn’t sound like Roper set out on this course empty handed.  It appears she has some leverage:

Her attorney, MacLeod, also told the OC Register that Koper is preparing a package of documents regarding her charges that she will submit to the Internal Revenue Service for review.

It looks like she took evidence of the fraud with her when she left.  Now, this should get very, very interesting.

  1. I hope this is the end of TBN as we know it.

I first noticed the Crouches after the downfall of Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker- maybe they had been around, but the Bakkers had been getting all the notoriety.
Ever wonder how much Legalism messes with Pentecostals? They try so hard to be holy in their own strengths that their failures outweigh their successes. Add to that the impossibility of living up to the Prosperity heresy, where if you don’t have LOTS of money, God must not be pleased with you.
The third leg of the stool may be that many Pentecostals adhere to the doctrine that a Saint can lose his or her Salvation, that they can backslide out of God’s Grace.
Is it any wonder that the Crouches, the Hinns and Paula Whites, the Todd Bentleys, et al all seem to live such chaotic, troubled lives?
I wouldn’t want to try to live up to any of those issues-thank God for leading us out of Pentecostalism!

Legalism is alleged against any view that obedience to law, not faith in God’s grace, is the pre-eminent principle of redemption

  4. Let say for discussion that if only 10% of what is alleged in the lawsuit is true, for benefit of the doubt, the behavior of TBN and its leaders is SAD, WRONG and REPREHENSIBLE…. in other word NOT CHRISTIAN.

  5. Chris says:

The sad part or should I say one of the sad parts is that many people see TBN and other networks like this as real Christianity. It makes the church look rediculous and also makes it tougher for legit ministries to get donations. sad

  6. Carolyn says:

Aside from feeling sorry for this girl who was brave enough to let her own honesty take on corruption in high places, and naive enough to underestimate the evil behind granny and grampa’s empire; the evil behind “the love for money” and those threatened by the loss of it, I see this as God’s hand of writing on the wall…a judgment by God that has been made to let everyone know that their time is almost up. They have pushed greed/idolatry and immorality to the limits. Always the same maladies of false teaching….idolatry and immorality, perhaps they are idols by different names, but the always the same sins. And God’s name is dishonoured.

    Revelation 2:20-22 (New International Version)
20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways.

Judgement is inevitable. How is comes sometimes, is the surprise.

Chrystal–sooo glad you are back! Missed you guys. K

  8. oby says:

@ Bob, What do you mean that the wrath of God is satisfied in Christ?
All the letters in the new testament were written to believers and we are clearly warned to continue in the way of Righteousness. A CHRISTIAN WHO COMMITS WILFUL SIN CRUCIFIES THE SON OF GOD AGAIN. For these ones, the scripture clearly states that there remaineth no sacrifice for their Sins. If you are saved and backslide, then except you repent, you will surely spend eternity in the place prepared for the devil and his angels(demons).
The grace of God comes with a responsibility to love , obey and reverence the God who loved us while we were sinners and sent his son to die for us that we may be reconciled unto him.
God does not pour his spirit on sinners. The book of Corinthians clearly teaches us that the spirit of God CANNOT dwell in an unclean temple.
We are saved by grace, justified by our Faith in christ but we must continue in works of righteousness and Obedience and subjection to the God we serve and Christ who is our Master and Teacher. The doctrine of Eternal Security as is some other doctrines, is a lie and against all that the scriptures reveal to us about the nature of God and the requirements of making it into the kingdom of Heaven

    • Grant says:

So it’s the willful sin that will overcome Jesus’ Blood then? Is there any other type of sin other than willful sin? Are you saying the sin that you sin isn’t willful sin but a different kind of sin that Jesus’ Blood has taken away as a Christian but when you get into that willful sin well Jesus DBR couldn’t deal with that brand of sin because it’s too powerful.

How many acts of righteousness does it take a sinner to get out of death?

    • Eli says:

Sinning takes us out of fellowship with God (backsliding as you say), but it DOES NOT jeopordize our salvation.
you said “If you are saved and backslide, then except you repent, you will surely spend eternity in the place prepared for the devil and his angels(demons).” Not true, and can only be back up with scripture twisting. If one spends eternity in Hell with the devil, he was never saved in the first place. If what you say is true, then our salvation becomes a work as WE try to maintain our salvation. Scripture is very clear that we can not do it on our own. and if we do, then we can boast.
I spent many years in a pentecostal church, and that’s what I was taught. if you sin, you have to start all over again, receive the Holy Ghost by evidence of speaking in tongues, yadda yadda. Thanks be to God, He brought me out of that false works-based, rife with legalism religion.

      btw – well said Grant.

  9. ian vincent says:

If they wanna be “the church in the world” then they gotta play by the world’s rules. If they want to be recognized by the governments/kingdoms of this world, and the reap the benefits of that alliance, then they better keep their laws regarding religious business, or go to jail.

Or, otherwise, just get some friends together in your living room and pray and read and discuss the Word together, and the kingdoms/governments of this world can do what they like.

Just as it was in the beginning.

  10. Grant says:

Sorry Chrystal about venturing off the topic won’t happen again

Points from Phil Cooke’s website about TV ministries/ networks

    1.  If a pastor or evangelist wears fake hair, he’ll probably lie about other things.

    2.  The more outrageous the product offer, the more spiritually bankrupt the ministry leader.

    3.  What makes the phones ring is often theologically suspect.

    4.  Most “World Outreach Centers” rarely reach outside their neighborhood.

    5.  No matter what they say, telethons aren’t about ministry.  They’re about money.

    6.  If you think your idea is a “new revelation,” chances are, it’s not.

    7.  Media buying is where all the money is in TV ministry.

    8.  The bigger the ministry, the more terrified they are of making a mistake.

    9.  Too many people say, “God told me to do this.”   With most of those ideas, God would rather not get the credit.

    10.  80% of ministries with jets don’t need them.

Mary Hutchinson of Creative One, a church and ministry fundraising and strategy consultant, sent me this list of “10 Random Thoughts About Religious Television.” Mary’s terrific – frank, honest, and to the point. Let me know what you think of this list:

    1) If you do not ask, people will not support.

    2) Not all Christian TV is designed for all audiences (hint: its okay if you don’t like some of it)

    3) People give to change lives.

    4) Just because it is on TV (or in the mail) does not mean it is working.

    5) The secular world does not watch Christian TV except by accident.

    6) Good fundraising is bad TV.

    7) If the ad says a book can change your life, it can’t.

    8) Free offers are a good way to build a file of people who want something for nothing.

    9) Volunteers are an expensive way to stop a TV ministry from growing.

    10) The only way to know how fast product is being shipping from your ministry is to order something.

  12. Carolyn says:

To continue on with my last post….it reminds me of how naive and condemned I was made to feel when I challenged the powers that be about a false prophet that came into our church and prophesied grandiose heresy. At the time, I believed I thought I was in a church that was open to truth, not just their own, but Biblical truth. How soon I learned that was not the case. They much preferred the stubbornness of their own hearts, the lies of deceitful workmen masquerading as kindly old prophets and ecstatic, mystical feelings of spiritual demonic influence. I knew enough of the Bible to know that they obviously didn’t. Wow. The scriptural ignorance of the elders and leaders of that congregation astound me to this day!

We can never be reminded enough… if we don’t know the Bible for ourselves and we are relying on teachers, exclusively, from ANY denomination to be our guides, we could be in for some surprises on judgement day. That means that we don’t just read a few of our favourite scriptures over and over and make our doctrine out of someone else’s doctrinal error. It means we study the whole counsel of God, we cross reference, we read in context, we search the scriptures and we ask for the Holy Spirit’s guidance over our research….and then we can speak with confidence about what is important to God, about judgement, about heaven, about faith and hope and love…the kind that is rooted in knowledge and understanding and not just an emotional expression of ecumenical benevolence. Will we have everything right? Maybe not. But enough to know when things aren’t lining up with what God says.

Anyhow, because of my own experience with rulers of evil empires….
where false teaching abounds and where truth is denied its rightful place, where experts in greed exceed the boundaries of common sense and civility and where predators who are making merchandise of the common people deserve to have their tables overturned….
my prayers go out to Brittany. My prayer is that she may continue to make level pathways for herself and that her accusers would be silenced. May God be glorified.

Amen and Amen, Carolyn!!!!!! You so eloquently speak what I can’t. Thank you for your posts on this. I think that most of us on this site have been victims of the name it and claim it crowd, as well as the prosperity gospel folks. As a young believer, I didn’t know any better and bought into all of this junk. But, as you said, when we search the Scriptures for ourselves and get rid of all of the spin, there is a whole different Word to be learned! God’s blessings to you, sister!

Jesus never taught about sowing seeds to reap a financial windfall, these prosperity teachers and preachers are full of wind and will one day fall.A lot of christians want easy street and thats the kind of garbage these people teach, they see these people livin the big life so they want that to but what they dont realize is that they acquired the money and where withall to live this way by false pretenses, they are liars, moochers and manipulators and like vultures feed off of the body of Christ, you see what they teach and preach appeals to the flesh and not the spirit so it is easy to see why so many are duped by these dopes, its beacuse their in the flesh and the flesh likes to be pampered and taken care of,it does not like to suffer go thru hardship or tribulation. They teach and preach a message they accomodates the flesh and appeals to our fleshly carnal appetites.

  15. Kiwi Dave says:

All this business with courruption in the TBN does is confirm that the Bible is the True and only Word of God:

“For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.” Luke 12:2 KJV

“Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.” Matthew 10:26 KJV

“For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come abroad.” Mark 4:22 KJV

I like this version the best:

“For there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, and nothing secret that will not be discovered.” Mark 4:22 Aramaic Bible in Plain English (©2010)

  16. Actually, observers have often wondered how the Crouches can have multiple mansions on both coasts, a $50 million jet and chauffeurs. And really, with the CFO coming forward, people now have answers to those questions. In fact, Koper is not suing TBN. However, these allegations are part of a lawsuit against her former lawyers from the Long Beach law bureau of Davert & Loe – Douglass S. Davert, David C. Loe along with Benjamin N. Flint III. And as a result, Brittany is now accusing these attorneys, who also do some work for TBN, of breach of duties, inflicting emotional distress and professional carelessness. Interesting, what might come next?
