Todd Bentley is campaigning hard for a revival. He released letters on June 15 and June 20 that are, to put it mildly, nothing short of embarrassing.
In the letter from June 15, Bentley says:
RAIN CLOUDS OVER CHURCHES
One time when I returned from healing revival meetings in Whitehorse, Yukon; I was ministering in the Abbotsford Revival Center and in worship that morning, the Holy Spirit brought me back to a prophetic word that I had given in the Whitehorse meetings. God began to speak to me about the coming healing revival in North America. In worship that morning I was caught up in the Spirit and I saw many rain clouds individually set up over many churches and ministries across the States & Canada pouring down rain. The rain clouds looked like they do in the cartoons on TV where rain would be pouring down upon one person or one place. Then I saw many ministers and churches that are already flowing in this miracle healing anointing, beginning to go into different cities and towns. As they were leaving these places of ministry the cloud would remain upon that church and continue to pour down healing rain.
JOHN 5 POOLS OF WATER
Many places are going to receive such an outpouring of rain that pools of water are going to form like in John 5, the pool of Bethesda. Within my spirit I didn’t just see one pool but I saw many pools across Canada. The literal meanings of Bethesda means the house of outpouring and grace. The Holy Spirit
spoke to me that these rains were for those churches and ministries that would fervently cry out for the rain, like Elijah upon the mountain in 1Kings 18:41-46. Elijah in verse 41 heard the sound of the abundance of rain and he knew in his spirit that the famine for Israel was over and it was time for the rain to fall, Chapter 18:1. Chapter 17:1 said that the rains would come at the word of Elijah and it would be at the word of the hungry people for healing revival in intercession that the rains will fall.
Notice anything? Bentley is saying I and me a whole lot through this letter. He saw this. He heard that. He’s really pushing this Bethesda theme pretty hard (which means House of Mercy, by the way). He even claims he was caught up in the spirit. If that doesn’t make Mr. Bentley a bonafide “upper-tier,” super-spiritual Christian, well then nothing will!
The arrogance that accompanies false prophets is one thing they have a hard time hiding. What Bentley is exalting in this message is himself. If there is a spiritual outbreak in Williamsburg, VA, it won’t be of God no more than Lakeland was. This will be another false revival full of false doctrine and false prophecy.
One thing is for sure, Bentley is sure trying to convince his loyal followers that revival is about to break out. After all, he can’t have a revival without them, and they won’t come unless they’re convinced there’s an outpouring. What’s sad is that they believe this is ordained of the Lord. They haven’t the discernment to tell that this is thoroughly demonic. Why? They base their beliefs on the word of Todd Bentley, not Scripture.
“I hear the sound of the rain and I know in my spirit IT IS TIME!!!”
Time for what? To go out into the byways and hedges and preach the gospel? No! It’s time to exalt Todd Bentley as the center of the three ring charismatic circus and compell the people to come to Bentley.
Bentley begins his June 20th letter this way:
And the inhabitant shall not say I am sick. Isa. 33:24
I believe that this verse is speaking of a time in the church where there will be no sickness or disease just like when Israel came up out of Egypt in Ps. 105:37 and none were feeble. Think about it, more than three million people! Kathryn Kuhlman prophesied in her day that there would be a day in the church where the church would say I am not sick. Many others have prophesied a great healing revival including John G Lake who through his ministry it was reported that Portland was the healthiest city where over 100,000 healings and miracles were documented. God has shown me many things into the coming healing revival in Canada and the North American church. I want to share with you today four aspects of what I believe will happen in this revival.
Here are some problems with this statement.
- He’s taking Isaiah 33:24 and Psalm 105:37 out of complete context. (Look it up and rightly divine God’s Word to see what I mean.
- Kathryn Kuhlman and John G. Lake were both false teachers.
- There were 100,000 healings claimed, but never verified.
- He relies heavily on his visions and what he claims God has shown him, but there is not Scriptural substance to back any of this up.
Bentley then gives you four aspects of what “he believes” will happen in this revival he’s trying to spin up. In the interest of time and length, I’ll post them with a quick comment. Here we go.
1. Repentance: In the beginning in the garden of Eden there was no sin, sickness, disease or death. When sin entered the world then came sickness, disease and death. Sin opens the door for sickness and disease. Much sickness today is rooted in control, bitterness, envy, jealousy and unforgiveness in a person’s life. Two things that I see happening is as people who are in bondage
to sickness and disease repent of their willful sin, they will be healed. I’ve also seen that as the church repents of its corruption and worldly ways that healing would take place supernaturally without the laying on of hands. As repentance and the revival of righteousness sweeps through the church so will healings and miracles.
I will agree that there is sickness and death in the world because of sin, but that’s as far as I will go in agreeing with Bentley. Bentley teaches that sickness and disease are rooted in a person’s own behavior. So, it’s your own fault your sick! Have cancer? You shouldn’t have been so bitter. Have heart disease? That’s what you get for being jealous. Now, he didn’t say that, but if you will think this out logically and follow the thought through to its only reasonable conclusion, that’s the only thing you end up with. This also makes it easy for a false teacher to blame someone if they aren’t healed. If you go to one of his services and walk away just as eaten up with cancer as when you arrived – it’s your own fault. You shouldn’t have been so bitter. You should quit holding onto the sin you’re harboring. This, friends, is unbiblical.
Jesus tells us that unless we repent, we will all likewise perish. (Luke 13:1-5) The Galileans whose blood was mixed with Pilate’s sacrafices, and those on whom the Tower of Siloam fell, were they greater sinners because calamity came upon them? Not according to our Lord. We are all sinners – born and bred. Unless we repent, we will all likewise perish and be eternally separated from God.
2. Saints revival: God is going to do away with a clergy/layman “mentality” and raise up the saints in great works of his power. Not just the leaders, the anointed man, pastor or evangelist but the saints will begin to preach the gospel and heal the sick. Acts 6:1-7 reports that the Apostles called out seven men full of good reputation and the Holy Spirit. They laid their hands on them
then verse 7 reports the number of the disciples increased greatly. We all know Stephen full of faith and power doing signs but who were the rest (vs.5) we never hear of them again or their works of power. I believe they flowed in an anointing just like Stephen. God is going to use the church deacons, business men, cashiers and housewives including children to work his great power. Nobodies as it were, people we don’t know just like those chosen by the Apostles, people like Stephen.
One way to ensure there is as little resistance as possible to a demonic move of the spirit in the body is to get rid of the head. The pastors who would teach, who God ordained to teach the flock, are subverted and discarded, and the congregation takes the reigns. There’s no accountability, no sound biblical teaching, and no control. That’s like the inmates running the asylum. How much order do you suppose will be in Bentley’s order of things?
3. Children s ministry: I have seen a great move of healings and miracles by the hands of children. I had a vision of an 8 year old boy with a bible in his hand preaching with fire and boldness to thousands. Through the word of the Lord he preached and the sick were recovering in there seats. I see children being used by the spoken word and faith to grow limbs and I see them working creative miracles. Jesus said in Matt. 19:14 Let the Little children come to me do not forbid them, for of such is the Kingdom of heaven. We know that the kingdom isn’t in word only but in power and Jesus driving out spirits by the spirit of
God said the kingdom is upon you. Children are going to move in the power of the kingdom driving out spirits, healing the sick because the kingdom is theirs.
Guard your children well.
LAST DAY ANOINTING
4. Last Day Anointing: I have seen a glimpse of the anointing that will be on the last day church. We think the book of acts was glorious but the glory of the latter house will be greater than the former. We are going out with a bigger bang than we came in. Rev. 11:1-6 describes the two witnesses moving in great power like Elijah and Moses. I believe that this is not two people but the end time church operating in the spirit and power of Elijah and Moses.
Bentley sees a last days anointing, but Scripture paints a different picture. (By the way, this is what happens when you allegorize the Bible instead of taking it literally.)
2 THESSALONIANS 2:1-4:
1 Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together to Him, 2 that you may not be quickly shaken from your composure or be disturbed either by a spirit or a message or a letter as if from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. 3 Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God.
It gets more bizarre from here. Bentley continues:
IN THE MIDST OF THE SEVEN LAMPSTANDS
Rev 11:4 says the two witnesses are the two lampstands. Where was Jesus standing in Rev. 1 but in the midst of the seven lampstands which were the church. Luke 1 prophesies John the baptist in the spirit and power of Elijah at the first coming of Jesus. Some even thought he was Elijah. Matt. 17 on the mount of transfiguration the Father used Moses and Elijah as a sign of the law and the prophets to show that Jesus was who he said he was and I believe as we near the second coming God will again confirm the church as His voice by bringing the spirit and power of Moses and Elijah upon His army. I have seen the army of God moving in creative anointing through the spoken word, like at the word of Elijah the heavens were opened (1Kings 17:1).
Do me a favor? Listen to John MacArthur, Jack Kinsella, Todd Strandberg, Don McGee and teachers like them if you want to interpret Bible prophecy. Not Todd Bentley. The Bible does not say that God will bring the spirit and power of Moses and Elijah upon his endtime army. If Bentley studied the Bible, he would know that the only army this earth will see is the army of saints that will accompany our Lord at His glorious return. This is Bentley’s very misguided interpretation of Scripture…that’s all.
POWER OVER NATURAL ELEMENTS
Joshua spoke and the sun stood still, Moses turned water to blood and I see the church having the same power over the natural elements even as Jesus had the winds and the sea obey him. This also will happen to us, we will move into a wonder ministry fulfilling the rest of Joel 2.
Wow. Bentley’s power trip has officially gone into orbit. What could be more outstanding than a preacher who can control the sun? Turn water to blood? Command the winds and the sea? This is dangerously close to a Messiah complex. What next? Will Bentley claim God has given him the power to save?
I won’t quote the rest, you get the drift. Please … please…please… cling to the Word of God as your sole source of infallible truth.
And, oh yeah… steer clear of this so-called revival. God is ominpotent and omnipresent. You don’t have to run to Williamsburg, VA to get in touch with Him.
