No doubt you have heard of Brandon Barthrop of “toking the ghost” fame. He is a “new mystic” and “hypercharismatic” who doesn’t open his mouth without blaspheming. Bud Press of Christian Research Service gives you the latest on the false teacher and his blasphemy.
Brandon Barthrop: Proceeding From Bad To Worse
‘Apostolic Pirate’ captaining a sinking ship
by Bud Press, Director
Christian Research Service
January 19, 2010Give a false teacher an inch of approval and he’ll take a mile of advantage.
Such is the case with Brandon Barthrop, self-proclaimed “judge, king, apostle, prophet, teacher, evangelist, pastor,” and founder of Red Letter Ministries (“History & Testimony,” http://www.redlettermin.com/history.html”
Bathrop’s strange behavior and statements on YouTube have garnered laughter and cheers from his followers, and righteous indignation from discerning Christians.
How funny is it?
While some may find Brandon Barthrop humorous, what seems comical on the outside may be deadly on the inside. As a major player within the “huffing the Holy Ghost” movement, one of Barthrop’s specialties is twisting Scripture out of context to suit his brand of religion; another is shocking his audience and mocking Jesus Christ.
In his YouTube video titled, RLM Prophecies for 2010, Barthrop informs the viewer to expect great things for this year. At 1:04 into the video, Barthrop says the Rhema word of God will be sown globally, then states, “and it will not be the gospel of salvation…” And, at 1:54, Barthrop states that, “When you are saved you get the same gift that Jesus got when he was born again at age 30…” ( http://tinyurl.com/ygmb5zd ). Read more…
Did you mean to say BARFrop instead?
Jesus “born again” at age 30″? That’s odd, don’t remember reading that in the Bible. Must be one of those “private interpretations” I keep reading about. Listen to him and you will be systematically poisoned to death.
As long as these heretics can find a crowd of ignorant people professing to know the ways of God they will continue. Place him in a church that has been taught the word of God and see what kind of reaction he gets.

- Wizards that go “Bing!”
- BOB: Babblers of “Babylon”
Going anywhere near people like Brandon Barthrop, John Crowder, or Benjamin Dunn is dire, as I point out following.
Even quoting their names and the web links of their ministries, and sample video clips in blogs could lead the unwary to danger.
It magnifies all the Google search returns for links leading towards deception.
It is similar to pointing people to pornography video footage as part of arguments against immorality.
Brandon Barthrop’s “wife?” Penny is on video uttering pornographic oriented rhetoric about “things the spirit is doing to her”.
I didn’t watch it, as I don’t want corrupting rhetoric in my mind.
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (link>Rom 12:2), rather than be transformed by the corrupting of your mind.
One blog site that hosted it (endtimespropheticwords – to critique it) gave warning of the content, so there is no need to watch it.
These are the dilemmas of discernment web sites.
People like Brandon Barthrop, John Crowder, and Benjamin Dunn have tapped into real occult power.
Their (apparent) ramblings of madness is not random inconsequential utterings.
There are specific messages and methods through it all, and demonic activations will occur with some people who view it.
Just like how some people instantly “received from a spirit” in link> Toronto “Blessing” channeling sessions 16 years ago, whilst others got nothing from it and remained puzzled observers.
In the video linked to above (RLM 2010 prophesies), Brandon Barthrop begins his dialog with “Bing! Rickor-raka-reso”.
That is an activation, just like the activation methods of hypnosis mind control.
The mystical beginning of the Barthrop video clip sets the environment for the familiar spirit channeling session.
Some observers actually will get channeled from it.
Using the preconditioning “mild acts” of previous Toronto “Blessing” type church activity, the devil now appears to be bringing hard core acts directly into churches, and therefore to the world.
Subjugate churches by corrupting them with mystical entertainments, then subjugate the world.
Churches should have blocked link> mystical “emerging spirituality” at the beginning.
Now it is the main feature of “revivals” like Lakeland (Todd Bentley) and IHOP (Mike Bickle, Bob Jones, Rick Joyner).
This is the consequential (16 years later) payload of Toronto “Blessing” type channelling, and it is blowing out all over the internet through video clips (YouTube, etc.) and online streaming such as GodTV and TBN.
There are going to be some serious demonic possessions as a consequence, some of them might be totally irreversible, because they entered through deliberate mocking and blaspheming of God. John Crowder is a leader committed to demonic possession through his methods and preaching.
God may punish participators publicly (eg. handed over to a strong delusion by God – link> 2 Thess 2:11-12) as a warning example to all.
The possessed participators will show what not to do as they descend into awful acts, mental illness, and death, taking many with them.
I know of a suicide (hanging by rope, after first committing adultery) of a Christian woman about 12 years ago, in a church I went to. She was into all the charismatic deliverance imaginations that remain popular in many churches. It is mostly worthless sorcery, a “blowing into the wind” against the devil, and a distraction from what God actually wants Christians to do.
(The “emerging church” with contemplative, mystical spirituality follows a different lord than the one of Genesis 1:1)
“Just a little bit” of vibrating, jerking, and “slain” manifesting in churches may become abhorrent, once Christians see the connection to the hard core consequences being led by people like Brandon Barthrop, John Crowder, and Benjamin Dunn.
Joining a Satanic coven could become as simple as going to a local “Christian” church and going up the aisle to “get ministry”, get channelled, receive a spirit guide (familiar spirit), then follow its leading from there. Am I exaggerating? What about Toronto “Blessing”?
The “apostolic” purveyors of poison (church control masters like Peter Wagner and Rick Joyner) have worked out ways to channel more spirits in one session: tunnels of fire.
In “Tunnels of Fire” initiates “run the gauntlet” between rows of link> spirit channellers.
More than 14 years ago I saw “prophets” in churches babbling (a milder version) of the rhetoric and manifestation that Brandon Barthrop is giving.
The Babblers of “Babylon” (B.O.B.) are practicing sorcery and divination over the unwary.
Isaiah 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead? (KJV)
What about wizards that go “Bing! – Rickor-raka-reso” (Brandon Barthrop, 2010 prophecy video)?
Consider the entire context: link> Revelation 16:17-19:9
link> The good ending:
This guy is a leprous sore. I watched some of his videos but I won’t watch them again. He makes me physically ill.
A quick skim of his website shows that two of the textbooks required for his 2-week “training” school are The Book of Enoch by Enoch and a book by St. Theresa of Avila…’nuff said right there…particularly the use of a non canonical book!
Chrystal, may God Bless you-I don’t know if I could stomach all of the stuff you must watch in order to be able to warn against these spurious Christians. I hope that you take some time for rest, friend.
Doug,
I have been resting a bit in the last week. Sometimes you just have to step away and take a breather. It gets oppressing after hearing it for a while.
Sometimes I have to push back from it and take a break too. I’ve gone through periods of light depression and shed so many tears over this kinds of stuff, that I just had to take a break. And sometimes I feel huge amounts of rage at these wolves for the way they trample the Word and mock my Lord and Savior. And then I remember, “vengance is Mine, says the Lord”. They will get their just deserts. What would be better is if someone could get through to them and get them saved for real before it’s too late.
I truly believe that he is not deceived, but rather he is a willful agent of Satan sent to lead the weak flock astray. It is very sad to know that some people actually think they are following God because they don’t know any better. Messages like this one encourage me to continue to be bold with the Gospel – I take a lot of flack for being “in your face”, but I think time is short and we don’t have time to mess around any longer. God bless!
I agree Mike. Him and all his blasphemous mates, I believe have deliberately set on a course to mock our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. No fear of God at all.I’m not sure about their followers, it seems just another reason for them to party. His god is satan, he’s forgetting one day he has to stand before the judgment seat. If someone is genuinely deceived, thinking they are saved but are not, they wouldn’t be mocking. Another sign of the last days.
I believe you’re probably right, too.
Channelling familiar spirits
Brandon Barthrop’s preaching, prophecies, and manifestations indicate he is channelling familiar spirits (demons masquerading as friendly), because the Holy Spirit never inspires behaviour identical to drugged/drunken/mental illness manifesting – that contradicts the Bible, of which the Holy Spirit is the author (through guiding its contributing writers).
Brandon Barthrop’s perverse speech and actions (unbiblical, blasphemous, and profane) proves the spirit that guides him is not from the God of Genesis 1:1, but more likely from “the god of this age” (2 Cor 4:3-4) or “prince of the power of the air” (Eph 2:1-3).
The Holy Spirit limits himself (“inside a box”) within the counsel he has already given through his Bible:
God never contradicts himself, and nowhere in the Bible permits acting like the drunken/drugged/mentally ill, as being acts of the righteous. They are the acts of the unrighteous.
Brandon Barthrop, John Crowder, Benjamin Dunn, and like, are manifesting spirits from the God of chaos – the devil.
These mockers of God are demonstrating and encouraging the extreme opposite of “The fear of the Lord”, so they should be considered sorcerers and liars.
Their antics are dangerous because even just inciting the unwary to laugh at their crazy acts, invites them to participate in entertainment about mocking and blaspheming God.
Brandon Barthrop and similar manifesters follow a false Christ appropriately named DrunkJesus, or ChaosJesus.
False prophets glorify false christs.
See “Here a Christ, There a Christ” and “Blasphemy incorporated”.
Brandon Barthrop seems to be confirming himself as a lost cause, so at least everyone else around him should flee his company, and repent urgently from any participation in his ways, while they can.
If not, they will probably conclude with eternal punishment:
Keep away from Brandon Barthrop, John Crowder, Benjamin Dunn, Benny Hinn, Rick Joyner, and any other sorcerer/blasphemer/false prophet/false teacher/mocker of God.
They are a test.
Keeping their company and/or following their unbiblical counsel means you are failing the test.
@seeker3k:
I greatly appreciate the content of your posts. In fact, I’m way behind on reading most of the recent posts on this blog. There’s more in your above posts I’d like to comment on, but just don’t have the time right now.
For today, I did want to thank you for the “Here a Christ, There a Christ” link above. It’s an answer to prayer. I had found it months ago during my research, then my computer crashed, and I’ve been slowly and painstakingly rebuilding my links, copies of articles, etc. That particular link is one that I’ve wanted to share with my small group, but as much as I’ve tried to search for it I couldn’t find it until today. Praise the Lord and thanks!
Would you be open to e-mail if I wanted to contact you directly?
norcal:
Fine to email direct to seeker3@maxnet.co.nz
On a surface level, this garbage seems funny and totally absurd. It is much worse however. These ‘huffing the ghost’ guys are totally blasphemous. I would not be caught anywhere near them as I am afraid that God may bring fire from Heaven upon them at any time (or upon anyone else who blasphemes the Spirit in such a way).
Someone mentioned activation words as if they are taking advantage of hypnotised people. I noticed many years ago that these hyper-charismatic people do seem to be manipulated via hypnotism. All it takes is for the speaker to say a prase or make a motion and these people roll around on the floor and do all sorts of crazy things.

Hi Norcal,
Are you in the Sacramento area?
Ester:
Yes. Greater Sacramento area…+/- 30 mile radius
Why do you ask?
Ester:
I noticed on Ariel’s Gospel Masquerade blog that you’re an ex-hopper. Interesting!
If you’d like to contact me: andmarkpartners@gmail.com
Is it just me or does it seem there is a new fascination with the occult? Everywhere I turn I see people doing occult-like things just under a new name. For example, the military has been doing ‘remote viewing’ for a long time. This is nothing more than psychic junk. People everywhere believe they are contacted by aliens who communicate with them telepathically. Ghost hunter shows are on several TV channels almost daily. Bigfoot and other ‘monsters’ are always on TV as well. The hyper-charismatics are doing all sorts of divination and other junk. The ‘mainstream’ church is toying with contemplative prayer and yoga… Has the world gone occult?
Did anyone else think this is a strange? Maybe we are very near the rapture?
You are 100% dead-on. They even sell books on Yoga at the local Lifeway. Sad.
Truthinator:
If you’re interested, the February 8, 2009 message by Ray Yungen at the cornerstone link below covers that very topic. You get your choice of formats. The message covers the exponential explosion of how “new spirituality” (the new name for “new age”) has exploded in the Western World over the past 40 years. Staggering…definitely a sign of the end times.
http://www.cornerstonemultimedia.net/CCF/guests.htm
In short, exposing yourself to yoga opens one up to kundalini spirits (same as those manifestations activated by many hyper-charismatic laying on of hands impartations seen in Toronto, Pensacoloa, Brownsville, Lakeland, etc). In addition, mediation, including contemplative prayer (from Emergent Church influences and also practiced by IHOP, propagated by Jim Goll), and “soaking” prayer opens one up to inner voices and spirit guides. Also, a common denominator of those who practice such is that the “exclusivity” of the Gospel gets taken off the table. Rather, all other paths to God become viable, but not the Gospel.
Ray Yungen, Roger Oakland, Warren Smith are among the best authors/speakers on this. Bud Press (Christian Research Services) and Lighthouse Trails Research website are among the best resources for more information on these topics.
Dr. Gregory Reid on his website also has a very interesting article on the “Trojan Church” where he offers a very plausible hypothesis on the four vectors of last days apostasy. They include: devaluing the Word, Emergent (new spirituality), false signs and wonders coming in through the charismatic movement. Quite chilling. Reid also sells a full length book by the same title.
I wrote the above from memory…so apologize for lack of some specifics.
Wow, Norcal. Thanks. I will do some reading today.
@ Truthinator
Thought of a couple of more resources on these topics:
* The article by Gregory Reid is titled, “The Neutralization of the Church in Preparation for the Coming of the Antichrist
http://www.gregoryreid.com/id197.htm
* At http://www.concernednazarenes.org you can request a free Emerging Church DVD.
Ray Yungen, Joanna Michaelsen, Mike Oppenheimer of Let Us Reason ministries, and Sandy Simpson of Deception in the Church all speak on it. It addresses the topics you and I have been discussing and inroads of new spirituality into the Evangelical church and Western society as a whole. Very eye-opening. I played it for our small group and have passed out many copies of it.
* The reformednazarene blog is also a good resource on mystic/contemplative/new spirituality practices making inroads into the church. In the above two cases, Nazarenes are quite concerned about what’s being taught in their colleges and seminaries and what’s being introduced into their churches on a widespread scale.
* My research over the past months has taken me – often inadvertently – to conspiracy theory websites. By nature, I’m a glass half full type of person and not a fan of conspiracy theories, and I generally don’t stay, go back to, or hang around them. Below I’m going to link to an article merely because a few paragraphs in it relate to what we’ve been discussing. I hesitate to do so because I don’t want to get flamed by commenters. I, in no way, shape, or form endorse all of the content on this site.
That said, in the linked article titled, “The Mother of All Conspiracies”, read the pages below the subheading titled, “The Real Reason Why the Antichrist Will Kill Christians” down to the subheading “A Massive World-Wide Depression is Coming”…posits a scenario where Muslims, followers of new spirituality, and Dominionists will converge and unite to purge nonconformists, including/especially Christians.

I personally dont know why this stuff even makes it to this website. Its obviously so ridiculous, its just not worth commenting on. I think the word ‘ bizarre’ comes to mind. Anyone with 2 brain cells can see that these people are probably high on drugs, and are part of some wacko cult. It is not Christianity, but a bunch of losers with nothing better to do on a Friday nite but make fun of Christians with their sheer gross stupididty.
>> Robert 30/1/10 “I personally dont know why this stuff even makes it to this website.”
There are 2 good reasons to put examples of spiritual perversion on a critiquing blog:
1. it shows how scripture is being fulfilled.
2. It provokes the question “why are Christian people participating in this?”
The answer to that question provokes self examination about what you are believing.
This is good, as it may lead to change for the better, and change away from serious danger.
Revelation chapters 2 – 3 contain warnings from God about serious danger that Christians are participating in.
If not corrected, these problems may lead to damnation.
No one should hide behind the false teaching of “once saved, always saved” because the Bible has so many literal warnings against falling away, and not persevering through trials.
It is no good Christians playing around with witchcraft, and then expecting God will have to accept them because some church people told them “once saved, always saved”.
It is safer to follow the many literal Bible counsels that prevent falling away, and encourage repenting of wrongdoing.
If people have insufficient “fear of the Lord“, then they probably will fall away.
Rev 2:9 “……… a synagogue of Satan”
Brandon Barthrop, John Crowder, Benjamin Dunn, and others like them are fullfilling many aspects of Revelation Ch2 – Ch3.
They appear to be ministers in “a synagogue of Satan”.
John Crowder calls himself “the new mystics”, which is really just “the old sorcerers” in new clothes.
>> these people are probably high on drugs
No, they are involved in spirit channelling from familiar spirits which produces identical side effects as drugged/drunken/mentally ill:
Mental euphoria, body vibrations, twitching, slurred speech, gibberish speech and sound effects, animal acts – dogs, chickens, lions, snakes, etc., staggering about, falling over (“slain”), and having uncontrollable/irrational laughter.
Those were the manifestations of Toronto “Blessing”.
