Chances are, no one here hasn’t been acquainted with Todd Bentley, his Lakeland Revival shenanigans, or others among the hypercharismatics that he is associated with. But, Bentley’s new book, “Kingdom Rising: Making the Kingdom Real in Your Life,” does more to reveal the error in his doctrine than anything he has said so far.
Bentley’s book was published in October 2008 (yes, two months after the scandal at Lakeland), by Destiny Image Publishers, Inc. His publishing house cared little that this man was publicly disgraced, and proved himself to be a fraud, they published the book anyway. The gospel of the Kingdom holds little esteem to a publishing house whose bottom line is $$$$$$, and not the Word of Truth. But, that’s the topic for another post.
In his book, Bentley teaches that preaching the gospel will not win souls. Hypercharismatics rely heavily on experience above Scripture. They devalue the power of Scriptural truth, and focus heavily on physical manifestations as evidence of God’s wonder-working power. Christ Jesus, and His finished work on Calvary is belittled, or ignored all together, and the claims of miracles are exalted to a level above Scripture.
But, don’t let me rant. Bud Press, from Christian Research Service, read the book and has written a wonderful article about Todd Bentley, his new book, and his claim that preaching the gospel is not sufficient to win souls. I’ll defer to Mr. Press now….
Another good article.
I like this site. it is normally my first stopping point as I daily scn the net looking for things. Mainly looking for pieces of the puzzle set before me.
The sad, sad stroy of this preacher continues on and on, but I often think to myself when looking at all these Christian “horror stories”, is there a winner or loser?; Who is right and who is wrong?
The more I take a look at the days that we are living in, I am getting more and more convinced that the lines are being drawn and they are not being drawn the way I expected.
I am hearing a lot of viewpoints from a lot of people. Some very interesing. What cannot be denied is that biblical (and some other religions) prophecy is unfolding before us.
Going back to the article, we are seeing the church sliding into a dreamworld, that has no place in the real world. The obcession with signs, wonders and the taking over of the world is going to all end in tears and embarrassment as a global goverment will change the face of the earth and it peoples. If they even bothered to study escatology, they would know this, but they seem to be the catergory of people whom it is said that God would send a powerful delusion and alo the “elect” that Jesus said could (and would) possibly be deceived.
THe dividing line is being drawn…black or white and for a lot of Christian’s who are arrogant to think that they are the only ones who will be standing on the side of light, there is going to be a shock I believe.
Yo can try and tell these so called “anoited” people that they are wrong or deluded, they won’t listen. They are trapped in their own little bubble and unless the hand of the almighty bursts that bubble, only harm will come of it all.
The church and all those who value freedom, peace and justice should really only be focused on one thing…resisting the coming storm. This storm is coming…very soon!
Something that occurred to me that in this country, people are so dumbed down they have forgotten to think for themselves. They are looking for someone who seems to have the answers. If people have carnal tendencies, they will look for a “leader” who has all the charm of a snake oil salesman and who promises them things that appeal to them. They are not looking for “truth” from a Holy God and having to surrender in humility to Him. They don’t want to realize they are sinners and headed for eternity without hope. They want to think they are “OK” as they are and looking for a “god” who loves them. They are not looking for a Redeemer who suffered on a cross and they are not looking to walk as He walked. No, they can’t live by faith, they want “sight”. So they have their fake burning bushes, but no power in their lives because they are looking for a golden calf to meet their felt needs rather than a Holy and Righteous Creator who allowed His Son to suffer on a cross. They want a circus like atmosphere of being entertained, rather than looking to the Word of God and being taught by the Holy Spirit.
People are so easily misled because they are only looking for ear tickling performers!
Reminds me of the comment someone made to me many years ago about love.According to this “brother” love never saved anyone. In fact he told me “you can love these people right into hell”.
What makes this even more sad is that this was a leader in the church.
I know this is going to sound harsh but I just have to ask: have people willingly forsaken all reason and logic in the hopes of actually seeing a miracle,or do they simply desire to be lead about like lambs to the slaughter by these idiots?
Can someone say “last days”?
I believe with all that’s within me that God still heals today. He most certainly still delivers people today.I also believe He most certainly is not aquainted with one Todd Bentley,or the others just like him.
My 2 cents worth.
