Clay Aiken, Born-again Christian?

In People Magazine’s newest issue, Clay Aiken is on the cover with his infant son.  The headline accompanying the cover says, “Yes, I’m gay.”  Big shocker, right?

That headline isn’t what drew my attention.  People magazine refers to Aiken as a born-again Christian.  According to God’s Word, those who have been truly born-again have become a new creature and have been conformed to the likeness of God’s Son.  Aiken isn’t a new creature, he’s living very much in the old nature.  Nothing has changed.

Judging from what secular society believes, the lines between right and wrong are completely erased.  Truth is relative.  He may consider himself a “gay christian,” but those two words cannot be used in cohesion to describe anyone living in open rebellion against God.  Regardless of how liberal christians, or so-called gay christians, try to justify it, God’s Word says that those who do such things will not enter in!  It’s as plain as that.

God says homosexuality is unnatural and an abomination, but what does He know?  Apparently, the world now believes they know more than God.  Stay tuned, it’s infiltrating the churches.  Indeed, it’s already there.

Responses

  1. Gay-Christian is an oxymoron.

  2. Great blog …saved to favourites.

    Lord bless

  3. This is something that really upsets me. These pop culture icons claim they are “Christian” and live in abominable lifestyles. There is no right and wrong, sin is considered acceptable in churches and connected with those who claim to be Christian.

It’s madness and with this mentality of glorifying the homosexual lifestyle, the judgment of God has to be coming soon. In the days of Lot and the days of Noah…

The Word of God has been abandoned by most of what is popular or acceptable by the world and it’s just another sign of the days in which we are living.

I’m not surprised at the “gayness” as so much as the “Christian”. Why would have this “baby” in that lifestyle and environment?

Do they think they can fool everybody? They certainly are not fooling the Living God. They only fool themselves. God is not mocked.

  4. Gay Christian is no more of an oxymoron, than a Christian who gossips, or a Christian who ever breaks the speed limit in their cars.

  5. I think it’s funny when Christians are self righteous….So which part of the law did you break today…..You have no clue what the Gospel is yet…..You have a twisted understanding of God right now…..Let’s see if you pass the test…
    1John 3:8, 9
He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

  6. so is lusting Christian an oxymoron too? How bout a Christian who covets? You people are demon possessed…I believe in the power of God….Do you?

  7. Or Maybe someone who kills over a million foreigners who claims to be a Christian is an oxymoron…Did you vote for Bush…?

Oh that’s right they are “terrorists” so it’s ok right……You people are sick

  8. can i get your permission to copy your blog to my bebo?

  9. Gossiping or breaking the speed limit or lusting, or coveting or even telling someone they are “sick” is not called an ABOMINATION in God’s word, homosexuality is. Demon possessed? NOW who’s being self-righteous, hmmm? CLearly it’s you who has no clue what the Gospel is. Makes me wonder are you gay, otherwise why would you get so fired up.

  10. did I vote for Bush? Dude, get a new argument, that one has been used to death.

  11. Chrystal, common. You’re embarrassing the rest of us Christians out here. We arent getting anywhere telling gays they arent welcome into the kingdom. Jesus comes first. Do I believe acting homosexual is a sin, yes. Is there anything wrong with being gay? NO. Do you know that he is fornicating at night and joining in big gay orgies? NO. Who are you to judge? We should pray for him, cause its probably really hard for a fellow Christian believer to deal with homosexuality and being a Christian. Jesus comes first. You cant deal with homosexuality by yourself. God will deal with that in his life in His timing.

  12. Tim, wrong. Don’t judge? Not biblical. I’m all for dealing with homosexuality in a loving manner. Not all are willing to deal with it, and for those people who are living in open defiance to God’s Word, they must be warned.

Who am I to judge? If we can’t judge things such as living an open life of homosexuality as being sinful, then we aren’t worthy to represent God’s Word to a sinful world. God said that those who do such things will not enter in. What are you going to do with that scripture? Erase it? Snip it out and toss it away?

    Think about it.

  13. Chrystal,

Thank you for bringing this out. It gave me a chance to use it for a pastoral piece on this issue:
    Clay Aiken: Another Gay “Christian”?

  14. You’re quite welcome, Ken. I just read your piece, and you said it better than I did. I give your post a great big, “AMEN!”

  15. [...] Apparently so; over at Slaughter of the Sheep we read: In People Magazine’s newest issue, Clay Aiken is on the cover with his infant son.  The headline accompanying the cover says, “Yes, I’m gay.”  Big shocker, right? That headline isn’t what drew my attention.  People magazine refers to Aiken as a born-again Christian. (Online source) [...]

  16. The Lord be praised, thank you. :-)

  17. Amen Chrystal and Pastor Ken.

I am so tired of these people getting on their own judgmental high horses when they get defensive about issues such as homosexuality and such. They act as if someone had stepped on THEIR toes. But sin hurts and the reality of sin in one’s life is light shining in a dark place. People who live in sin and the darkness do not want to see light or truth of God’s Word.

People love to throw the “judge not” verse out to defend their own attacks on those defenders of truth. It’s not as though someone is speaking about another gossiping, when they are guilty of gossip themselves. We are talking about exposing the truth in the midst of the cesspool of lies.

But anyone who speaks the truth of God’s Word will be attacked by those who are in the dark.

It’s tragic for those who would rather stumble in darkness and be judged by God in the Great White Throne Judgment, than recognize their sinfulness now, repent and know God as Heavenly Father!

Jesus told the straight and narrow way would have few who find it. It should be a revelation for those in the dark to wake out of the slumber.

  18. Chrystal,

Sorry to trouble you. Just one more headup. My post has already been picked up in the Clay Aiken Forum Blogs at the very bottom of the page here: http://www.clayaikenforum.com/

I wanted to let you know you might get some incoming fire.

  19. Clay needs our prayers, but he is truely in the wrong. It is one thing to say, “I have homosexual temptations and have lusted homosexually before, but I am working towards fighting this sin,” and entirely different thing to say, “I have to be me and do what I feel like even if it is sin.”

All men sin, but are all expected to come to repentance. Please pray for Clay that he will come to repentance, and we need to be gentle with him. We want the resounding message from the Christian community to Clay Aiken to be, “Homosexuality is sin, but by acknowledging this, repenting, and putting faith the Jesus Christ, he will forgive that sin, and begin the sanctifying process to free you from it.”

  20. Why am i not surprised?

Lets be careful though, homosexuality is just like any other sin in God’s eyes, it can be forgiven. I think that there can be christians who have gay desires and such that can still be born again, as long as they recognize that it is sin, and are not living in it. What I can’t stand is being told that I have to “accept” them for who they “are inside”. Ugh.

I doubt very much that mr. aiken is getting God’s help on this issue in anyway, it disgusts me that he can raise a child.

  21. Clay Aiken- love the man- hate the sin. Love what God loves- hate what God hates. God loves Clay Aiken, of course. Does he approve of the sin, No. Do we love Clay Aiken, yes. Do we approve of his sin or any other sin- No. Do we all sin- yes. Otherwise we wouldn’t need a Savior. Love, Love, Love. Don’t judge the world, it doesn’t know better. But be willing to be judged as you are judging. He who is without sin cast the first stone. Pray for yourself, then pray for Clay Aiken

  22. Years ago, I conducted extensive research on male-to-female transsexuals within the church. One taught Bible studies in his Assembly of God, and even filled-in for the pastor from time-to-time. Other cases involved transsexuals in Southern Baptist churches.

They denied the authority and exclusivity of God’s written word, and believed their transsexualism was “God’s will.” They were unrepentant, but claimed to be “Christian.”

Yet, during my research, I communicated with former transsexuals who were Christians. Their powerful testimonies attested to the incredible love and grace of Jesus Christ.

Yes, let us pray for the Clay Aiken’s of the world–that God will open their eyes and ears to the truth and be born again–according to His will.

At the same time, let us uphold the truth of God’s written word, and refrain from playing nicer than God, for God says what He means and means what He says (Romans 1:18-32; Hebrews 4:12).

  23. living in open habitual sin is a clear sign that one was never saved. You are calling him a christian, but the bibles definition of a person whos way of life show that they are a christian, ie, keeping Christs commandment, read 1john in its entirety to see what I mean, (read this for your self, you may be trying to justify your own sin by defending this mans)

I will not justify my own, sin, but nor will i live in perpetual sin. Instead of a profession of being Gay, Clay could have come out and said that he had been struggling with it and by the grace of God overcomming, fact is, he is not overcomming. This is an indication of his salvation for the way is narrow and few that find it, he may have made a profession of salvation but if he does not walk it he is not only Gay but worse a liar

  24. there may be hope for repentance for clay aiken. he’ll be living with the child’s mother at his home in NC and they will be raising the child together with both a mother and a father. he loves the child’s mother dearly as a friend. they truly care for one another and enjoy each others companionship. so for now, he’s not choosing to engage in a gay lifestyle. i am a friend of one of his family members and i know he never has engaged homosexual behavior despite tabloid rumors of past gay relationships. he needs our prayers during this time that he will come to realize the error of his thinking and find repentance. this is what his closest family members wish for him.

  25. Denise,

dont judge the world? fair enough, but when one of the world claims that he is a follower of christ, is gay, is born again, and is comfortable in his salvation?

This is evangelical religion at its worst!

religion from a man made sinners prayer that saves you not matter how evil you live,

Yes be willing to be judged as I am judging, not by mans opinion but by the word of God. I am a sinner, wretched man that I am, I have and still do fall far short of the glory, but praise be to him that he has had mercy on me, for he has declare, i will have mercy on whom i will have mercy, he has had mercy on me,

  26. Jill C,

“he’ll be living with the child’s mother at his home in NC” This is supposed to be better?

“so for now, he’s not choosing to engage in a gay lifestyle. i am a friend of one of his family members and i know he never has engaged homosexual behavior…”

With all due respect you cannot know this for certain; and in addition, it’s very at odds with his recent “coming out” and his appearance with Diane Sawyer.

  27. Hi Denise:

Is it Biblical to judge? Here is a good article that answers the question:

    http://www.pfo.org/notjudge.htm

  28. Clay made this a religious issue by claiming to be a born again Christian. He claims that he doesn’t want to be a father who teaches to lie, but continues to lie by claiming that a homosexual lifestyle is conducive to Christian living.

  29. Biblical reference to judging – “What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside.” I Corithians 5:12-13

  30. Where does this idea come from that all sin is equal? Where do we get the idea that eating too much chocolate is the same as adultery? I’m amazed that people cannot see that God called out certain sins as abominations to Him.

Not only does God tell us certain things are abominations to Him, but he also calls out one that will not be forgiven by Him. Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is not the same as telling kids there is a Santa Claus.

I would like to find one BIBLICAL reference that states that God sees all sins the same.

  31. No-one can judge except God. I look forward to the day i will be judged by Him as I have done nothing wrong. God created and made me this way and everything he has shown me has proved this is who I am to be.

Scripture says women once could not be in Church likewise with black people. look whats changed, isnt it about time people accepted homosexuality is something which has always been present. Its not a choice its who you are!

  32. Heather,

You have just re-written the Bible.

As for the fallacy that no one can judge except God, read 1 Corinthians, chapter 5.

As for how things have changed…God and His Word never, ever change, and His Word says that those who do such things (homosexuality) will NOT enter in. He would never create someone to be homosexual and then punish them for their behavior.

Homosexuality is evidence of the fallen sin nature, and must be repented of. Consult God’s Word on these things.

  33. In God’s eyes all sin is sin. When we pick and choose which ones are “worse” than the others by our own standards or practices we place ourselves in a position to change the Word of God as if we had that privilege to decide which ones are worse than others. We have commandments all through the Bible from idolatry and adultery to gossip and lack of self control.

In God’s eyes, it’s all disobedience.

According to the Word of God, we can judge other believers by the words they speak and how they act if they line up with the Word of God or not. We may not be able to see in their hearts, but their words and actions reflect what is inside.

  34. Heather,

First off, I don’t know where in the Bible it says that black people or women can not be in church. It says that women could not be in leadership in the church, which it still says. It doesn’t say anything about skin color (unless you’re reading the book of Mormon).

But far far far more important than that is this statement – “I look forward to the day i will be judged by Him as I have done nothing wrong.” Right there is the heart of your problem – pride. Even if we’re going to grant you that it’s ok to be gay in God’s eyes (which it isn’t, but we’ll grant it anyway), if you still believe that you can have that found before God, you are in for a serious shock. I can’t stress this enough. If you can get through the pride that you’ve done nothing wrong, everything else will fall into place. 35. Heather,

I have no idea where you are getting your info from. It sounds like to me that you don’t read the Bible for yourself, but probably rely on what others have told you. First of all, you say that women and blacks could not be in church, and that is patently false. Actually, not being allowed in church is sort of a mis-nomer because church in the first century wasn’t a place you went to. The Church consisted of all who were disciples of our Lord. Yes these believers would meet at specific locations, but the location was never known as the church. Women and blacks were active participants in the church, and if they were not permitted to do so then it was because people departed from the teachings of Jesus. Women were told not to make disruptions during services and were told to watch their style of dress, so they were clearly apart of the church. Several key women followed Jesus around supported his ministry. Then there was Pirscilla who was very instrumental in the church. The scriptures declare that in Christ there is no Male or Female, thus it is clearly taught in scripture that females were to play a role in the church. Also, if you read Acts 13 1:3, there is great speculation that Simeon (called Niger) was a black man. Jesus reached out to Samaritans and they were a mixed race, thus race wasn’t an issue. Now the Church in recent history has forbade blacks from membership, but that runs contrary to Christ’s clear teaching.
For you to compare Homosexuality (blatant sin) to race and gender is laughable. You said that God made you that way and it is ok and He has confirmed it to you. I find that when we want to live in sin we make sure that God confirms what we have already set our hearts on.

  36. There is the common response among those who profess to being gay or lesbian that “God made me that way”. Which is an incorrect idea of who God is and His commandments. God does not make people be something that goes against His commandments. I find that a very misleading idea of who God is. God does not make people gay, any more than He makes them a murderer, a thief, a liar or any other abomination.

Choices that a person makes over the course of their lives comes from free will. To say that God made one that way is telling others that it’s acceptable and justifies it in one’s own mind. Like any other sinful behavior, if one tries to justify their actions in their own minds, to them it will seem acceptable.

Something I would also like to address, it does not appear as though Clay seems sorrowful or in need of repenting of his homosexuality. If he was truly handling this in a Biblical manner, he would have discussed this through Christian sources in a way that would confess his sin and need of repentence. Displaying his gayness on a secular publication reflects he’s trying to live this double life of being gay and claiming he’s Christian.

I would hope he’d be sorrowful to repentance. But it’s as though he’s waving his rainbow flag in this matter.

  37. i once met a pastor, i was very drunk and i ask for his help concerning about sexuality. and then i was introduce on being a born-again christian.

i have a homosexual desire but i continue fighting because i know its wrong….

its been two years since i have accepted Jesus as my lord and savior.

recently this week i had an idea to constantly repeat . . .

… to trust GOD, trust GOD and trust GOD
… to love JESUS more, and more and more
… to forgive, forgive and always forgive

this is what i have to say every time that immoral desire comes, combined with prayer. And everyone knows that when we look unto JESUS we know in his name we can all be healed!! homosexuality is wrong, and i will try my best to change because i love the Lord.

i ask for your prayers, brother’s and sister’s in Christ. to completely be healed of my past and worthy of his love and grace.

  38. Ray,

Thank you for your courage in speaking out, and for opening your heart to the truth of God’s Word.

I will absolutely pray for you. Stay strong brother, and keep speaking out.

  39. You are certainly in our prayers and we thank the Lord that He’s opened your eyes and you have a repentant heart.

For those who want to fly their banner of homosexuality with no shame or remorse, no sorrow or the need to repent, they are blinded by the enemy’s lies.

We are thankful to hear of this brave man to come forward and seeking God.

  40. Ray, I am praying for you….just as I am praying for Clay. Let me encourage you. You do not need to change, Jesus will do that for you. God said, if you seek me with all of your heart, you will find me. He will deliver your Ray, because you are seeking and HE LOVES you so very much, as do I.

My heart is saddened at how Christianity, the word of the Lord Jesus, is cheapened with man’s ideas of acceptance. The more I look at the things of this world, the more I realize that the Last Days are upon us.

One more piece of encouragement I would like to offer……God does answer. My brother, gay for 10 years, has recently come to the Lord after rejecting him all this time. He realizes that homosexuality is a sin and is asking God to deal with it. He has started reading the Bible, going to church, praying and leaning on God for everything. Only God can bring a hardened heart around like that. :) Praise and Glory be to the Lord on High.

Lord, please help this fallen world.

  41. Ray, when we understand that Christ is the only one who can save us, that we have no power over our own sinful desires, that we CANNOT overcome apart from God doing a work in our heart, that is a start. God commands us to repent, but we are not able to do so unless the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sins and God draws us to Christ {John 6:44}, and grants repentance {2 Timothy 2:25}. It is by His grace, His mercy, that lost sinners are saved. PLEASE, Cry out to God until He saves you, wrestle with Him as Jacob did, “I will not let you go until you bless me”. I have been saved by God from homosexuality, and I did nothing to bring it about. God humbled me and saved me, by His grace. He did as His word states in Ezekiel 36:26,27 “Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
“I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.”
Notice how God does it all, not us. I pray God will save you to the uttermost!
